How the Umrah visa works now

The Umrah visa is issued electronically through the Saudi system, and it is applied for on your behalf by a licensed operator. You do not stand in a queue at a consulate. What that means in practice is that the quality of your paperwork — and the speed with which you send it — decides how smoothly the process goes.

The rules governing Umrah entry are reviewed regularly by the Saudi authorities. Anything you read online, including this page, may be a season out of date. We confirm the current requirements for your exact travel dates in writing before you pay anything.

What we need from you

• A clear scan of your passport, all four corners visible, no glare.
• A recent photograph to the specification we send you — not a scanned print, not a selfie.
• Your vaccination certificate, once you have it.
• Basic details for each traveller, exactly as they appear on the passport.

Passport problems that cause delays

• Insufficient remaining validity. Check yours today, not the week before departure.
• Name mismatches. A name on the ticket that does not match the passport character for character is a problem that grows the longer it is left.
• Single-name passports. Very common in parts of India and entirely manageable — but tell us at the start, not at the end.
• Damaged passports. A water-stained or torn page can be refused at immigration.
• Recently renewed passports where the old passport carried a relevant history.

Vaccination certificate

Saudi Arabia requires pilgrims to hold specified vaccination certificates on entry. The list is set by the Saudi Ministry of Health and is reviewed each season. Before you visit a clinic, ask us for the list that applies to your travel dates — getting the wrong vaccination is an expensive way to lose a week.

Women travelling without a mahram

The rules on women performing Umrah without a mahram have changed in recent years and are now far more open than many families assume. Because this is both a regulatory question and a question many families want to settle on religious grounds as well, we will tell you plainly what the current entry rules allow, and leave the second question with your own scholar.

Children and infants

Children travel on Umrah regularly and are welcome in our groups. What changes is the practical planning: room configuration, the walk to the Haram, prayer timings against a child's sleep, and how much of the programme it is realistic to attempt. How long it takes

Once a complete and correct file is submitted, the visa itself is usually not the slow part — incomplete files are. We will give you a realistic timeline for your dates when we quote, and we will tell you if your dates are too tight rather than taking the booking and hoping.

Mistakes we see every season

• Booking flights independently before the visa position is confirmed.
• Sending a photograph that does not meet the specification, three times.
• Assuming a rule that applied last year still applies this year.
• Leaving one family member's documents until last.
• Not telling the agency about a medical condition that affects seating, mobility or medication.
